Born in Lower Austria, Johannes Beranek is noted for his wide range of artistic work. He most recently won the “Karl Österreicher“ Conducting Award in  June 2025.

In the 2026/27 season, he will make his debuts with the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Wiener Concertverein. In 2026, he was Assistant Conductor at the Salzburg Mozart Week, working closely with Roberto González-Monjas and Rolando Villazón on a new production of The Magic Flute. He will return to the Mozart Week in 2027 as a guest conductor. Following his debut at the Smetana Hall in Prague with the North Czech Philharmonic in 2025, he will also return for a subscription concert in 2027. 

His debut with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra at the Vienna Concert House and with the Wiener Concertverein will also feature him as a composer with two premieres. 

He has been the musical director of the Danube Brass Ensemble since 2025. 

In April 2025 and 2026, he participated in a workshop with Stéphane Denève and the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami. 

He will also return to the Aspen Music Festival in 2026 as a conducting fellow for a second time. During his first time there (2024), he worked closely with renowned conductors such as George Jackson, Robert Spano, Jane Glover and Nicholas McGegan.

In February 2025, he was a quarter-finalist in the International Opera Conducting Competition of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie Liège. Also in 2025, Beranek participated in a masterclass with Petr Popelka and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, performing Tristan und Isolde.

He has also worked with Prof. Sian Edwards and Prof. Johannes Schlaefli in masterclasses. 

Beranek has conducted the Mozarteum Orchestra, the North Czech Philharmonic, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Aspen Music Festival Orchestra, the New World Symphony Orchestra, the Savaria Symphony Orchestra, the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra, the Kharkiv Opera Orchestra, the Camerata pro Musica, the Herzogenburg Symphony Orchestra and  among others.

Johannes Beranek is a student of Mark Stringer in Vienna and is due to complete his studies in June 2026 with a public graduation concert at the Musikverein in Vienna with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 2023 he also works as a study assistant in opera conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, assisting Prof. Francesco Angelico.

 

In 2021, Johannes Beranek founded the festival „Sommernachtsklänge“ in Lower Austria and as a composer he won the  1st prize at the Austrian competition „Jugend

komponiert“ at the festival „Aspekte“ in Salzburg.

In addition to his conducting studies, Johannes Beranek also completed his Bachelor’s degree in Horn at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and is currently studying for his Master’s degree at the MDW with Prof. Christoph Peham. Johannes Beranek has also played with orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Volksopera, the Ensemble „Pygmalion“, the Orchestra „Il pomo d’oro“, the Tonkünstler Orchestra and others.
